BMW 1 Series 2025 review: Next-gen 118 city car and M135 hot hatch set sights on new Audi A3 and S3

The 2025 BMW 1 Series represents the beginning of the German small car's fourth generation, although it's fair to say the new model is more of a heavy exterior and interior facelift of its predecessor, which was the first in the series to controversially make the switch to a front-wheel-drive platform.

This time around, the Australian launch line-up consists of an FWD 118 range-opener that's focused on city drivers, and an all-wheel-drive M135 high-performance flagship that finds itself right in the thick of the hot-hatch wars. And yes, both variants have dropped the 'i' from their names as BMW future-proofs its model nomenclature.
