From TrekWorks:

This is Pt 1 of my Richard Petty 73 Charger Stock Car build.

In this video segment I've been working with the body first.
I started out by removing all of the molding flash on the edges which were fairly heavy on this kit. Next I glued the front valance in place and sanded the edges for a smooth blend in of the part.

The hood needed some work as it didn't fit correctly so I used my heat gun to gently heat it up and get rid of the bow it had on the edges. It now lay's down on the body much better.

I then wet sanded the entire body with 600 grit paper and applied the primer. I applied 3 coats of primer sanding with finer paper after each coat and finished with 1000 grit.

For the paint, I used some real Spies Hecker automotive paint and mixed my own colors to match the Petty Blue and Day Glow Red used on this car.

I sprayed the Blue first and it took 2 coats with a wet sand with 1000 grit in between.
After about an hour of drying I masked of the car for the 2 tone color and sprayed on the
Day Glow Red.

The next update will show the white pin striping added along with the decals before the body is clear coated.
