Driving Uber or any rideshare or private hire platform means you need to think about safety and reducing risks to you as a driver. Dashcams with internal recording can be a great value; CCTV offers extra features. But increasingly, it's GDPR and data protection that decides what can be fitted.

Sadly, too many taxi and private hire regulators are using CCTV salespeople as consultants to determine what needs to be fitted, thereby staying compliant with ICO and data protection requirements. Obviously, as salespeople with a vested interest, they are pushing for multi-thousand-pound systems to be required, which are total overkill for the level of data the camera will process.

Here's my take on an increasingly expensive option that is being pushed by the CCTV industry rather than drivers or data protection.
