Okay, now this is the full story, unfiltered, how I went from "I don't want kids" to "I wouldn't hate it" to "I want a kid". It is a long video, but I wanted it to be calm and slow, so get some coffee and share your thoughts, whenever you feel the need.
I hope you watch this video to the end, because I am often explaining stuff later in the video, trying to show the full picture of the stories I share, and my thought process.
I don't want to convince people to have kids, I honestly don't care. If anything, I believe it is better to adopt a kid, if you want one, but I didn't have that option, because I don't have a money-printing machine at home.
About the question itself... I got that one more often than I like to, so I made this video to send it to people from now on, whenever they ask me in DMs or what not. "Why did you want kids as a minimalist" is a super odd question to me, and I only put it in the title because of click-friggin-bait. But it really has nothing to do with each other.
However, people seem to believe otherwise. Minimalism is a lifestyle that wants to reduce clutter and stress. And kids are both. But it is about more than that. I mean, seriously, if you use minimalism as an explanation (not that one is needed, but maybe for yourself or family) to not have kids, that's really stupid. You can be a minimalist and have a family. You can maintain any lifestyle if you try hard enough, I think. I mean, if it's not partying for a living, I'd say.
Minimalism and kids is not a contradiction. I for instance have a toy-free room and we don't live in a total mess at home. TBH my husband is way messier than my kid.
Deciding to have kids or not can be a lengthy process. In my case, it took several years. And at each point it felt like I had made up my mind. Until I changed my mind.
Now I have a kid and I am still a minimalist. I am not an extreme minimalist anymore, but I think, even that is very much possible with kids. Minimalism with kids is just the same as minimalism without kids. It's a no-brainer. If you can maintain that lifestyle alone, you can maintain it anywhere. The only thing with kids that produces clutter are toys and clothes. But it's not like you can't get rid of them.
Anyway, this video is not about how I practice minimalism with kids, it's about why I decided to be a mom. It's about that thought process and about how I found that this was something I could do. Hope you like it!
