Before discussing jio’s strategy let us see its tariff which will be implemented after march 2018
Free voice calls to any network in india without roaming is given to all the plans
4g data varies with plans as shown
Jio apps will be given for free to all the plans
For 149 plan, the sms limit is 100 and for all other plans it is unlimited
There is no wifi hotspot facility for 149 plan, but for the remaining there are some limits depending on the plans
These plans have 28 day validity and there are plans like 19, 199 and 299 but with lesser validity
In indian telecom industry the average revenue from a user per month is 150 rupees and if you pay more than that then you are treated as a high value customer
Now look at the tariff which plan would you choose among them ?
If you are a voice only kind of a person then you would be okay with 149 plan. Even though it’s the least plan jio is offering you are still paying the average revenue of 150 rupees, so jio is fine with it.
If you are a moderate data using person which plan would you choose ? I think many of us come under this category. Did you see any plans between 199 and 499 ?. no. so your only choice is 499 plan. This is basically a psychological trick to get you into 499 plan. Similarly there are no plans in between 499 and 999 plans also. In this way jio made their tariff cleverly with huge gaps in their prices.
every one has this doubt that how jio is giving unlimited voice calls,
there are many cool apps like jio play and jio on demand. currently they are giving these for free, so that people get addicted to them. they may start subscription charges in near future. as these apps are joined to jio network people are forced to join jio . instead of paying a tv service or a magazine jio wants you to pay them.
if you are some one who uses more than 150 rupees for voice calls every month and uses some data then you should see an advantage with jio provided you do not increase your data usage.
by making plans such a way that people interested in 4g have been forced to take 499 plan, jio is making more profits than the other players. more over with their promotional offers jio made addicted to 4g speeds, so its a win-win situation for jio
