Flu hospitalisations in England have quadrupled in a month, adding to NHS pressures as temperatures drop. On 29 December, 5,074 patients were hospitalised with flu, up from 4,102 on Christmas Day. The last week of December saw an average of 4,469 flu patients daily, including 211 in critical care—a 17% rise from the previous week. However, this is lower than the 5,441 recorded at the same time in 2022.
