At last, the compilation of all 165 Elden Ring bosses being done with no damage is complete! It was a brilliant game that I enjoyed a lot, and I had a lot of fun playing through it all. As for my thoughts on the game, it echoes the same of most opinions - it's pretty much a 10/10 game, or as close as you'll see a game get in this era. It's the first game for me to ever live up to "see that over there? you can go there", as every single object you see in the distance of this game you can actually end up traveling to. The unique bosses had a lot of variety, and all the different areas had a lot of diversity to them too. It looks absolutely gorgeous overall, which I find funny considering people complaining about the graphics. I could go on forever about all the great things about this game, and how much I enjoyed it, and that would be entirely true. But instead of that, I'll focus on the other side. There were a couple of downsides to the game I found, but most of those come from personal preference, rather than design-faults or actual issues.
First, I've never really enjoyed open world games, so personally what came as a part of that I wasn't huge on. I preferred the usual approach of having a smaller and more intricate world like the previous titles, but despite being open-world they still achieved that in a lot of locations here. It didn't feel overly tedious to explore like I found in other open worlds games, but because it's so large it meant there were a lot of repeat bosses to fill in areas or side dungeons. That aspect I didn't like, but it's a byproduct of it being open world, so it's understandable.
Secondly, the natural progression and your power level seems very unbalanced if you explore a lot, particularly for side bosses. It's fine as it makes the game more accessible, which isn't a bad thing. But in my playthrough when trying to find all bosses, I ended up avoiding leveling for around 60 bosses to prevent being overpowered, and I still felt way too strong for most side-bosses at all stages of the game. A lot of them could've been defeated in 1-2 hits if I didn't swap to lower level weapons, which felt a bit odd. Obviously this could be avoided if you take a more direct route, or just prevent leveling and upgrading overall, but I went for some semblance of natural progression and ended up much stronger than I thought. It's not me saying "ElDeN RiNg Is EaSy" by any stretch, it was just a weird contrast between the main bosses and then finding a side bosses that would be defeated in 1-2 hits.
Lastly, the multi-boss approach felt a little out of balance compared to previous games when trying to do them with no damage. Although I think this is more from a design intent. Expecting you to either use the new summons, or expecting you to just take a hits and use the wider range of abilities you have, so it's hard to actually fault. But previously, it felt like multi-enemy bosses were designed around the idea that they have some form of separation, or different attacks and aggression to split them up. In this it felt like the opposite, where all multi-enemy bosses were just stuck in together and could do what they wanted when they wanted, often sticking together and attacking at the same time, causing situations where it's unavoidable to take damage. Prime examples of this being Putrid Crystalian Trio, or the Duo Crucible Knights. I'm not complaining as I think that's by design and to use everything at your disposal, but it was just a different approach to all previous titles.
Outside of those 3 points, it's an excellent game. And to reiterate, they're only personal preferences, and not game faults or issues really. It doesn't take away from the game at all, and I still think it's a near perfect approach to a game and the genre.
Boss rating lists:
Difficulty-wise, from hardest to easier (from a no damage perspective, not to just complete them), my top 5 would be: Malenia, Putrid Crystalian Trio, Duo Crucible Knights, Duo Night's Cavalry (when fighting both at once), and Esgar, Priest of Blood (assuming you don't just overpower it and one hit the boss first).
Favourite bosses: Godfrey / Hoarah Loux, Malenia, Dragonlord Placidusax, Astel, and Starscourge Radahn. I really enjoyed all of those fights.
Anyway, if you've read all of that novel, thanks for reading, and thanks for watching!
