Gravedona, Lake Como - Italy Walking Tour

Come walking with me around one of my favourite towns on Lake Como: Gravedona.
This little town is located on the upper area of the western shore of the lake, animated by people and tourists during the summer, for the rest of the year it's a quiet place surrounded by a marvellous landscape where you can enjoy the peace and beauty of lake Como.
From Gravedona's elegant lakeside promenade you can admire the majestic Monte Legnone and the ancient Abbey of Piona on the opposite bank and, in the distance, the entrance to Valtellina and Valchiavenna.
Of pre-Roman origin, Gravedona is also rich of history and art: Palazzo Gallio, built above the ancient castle of the town, with its unique cubic shape overlooking lake Como is one of the most impressive building of North Lake Como; the Romanesque Church of Santa Maria del Tiglio rises near the main church of San Vincenzo and close to the lakeside. The most relevant elements are the bell tower, placed close to the façade, and the rocky walls, that make the ambient austere but elegant.
The ancient early-Christian structure of the church of San Vincenzo preserves the impressive crypt dedicated to San Antonio.
