Cycling the Old Coach Road | Ohakune

Once a cobbled road traversed by horse drawn coaches between two rail heads on the unfinished North Island trunk line, the Old Coach Road is now a popular cycling and tramping route close to Ohakune in New Zealand's North Island. It winds through beautiful native forest over close to 20 km. The road had been forgotten but was rediscovered and restored starting in 2002 including the restoration of the impressive Hapuawhenua viaduct which when built was the largest curving wooden railway bridge in the world.
