Dating to the late 1940s, this charming film was directed by Bill Chase and presented by Enterprise Mfg. Co.’s Pflueger Fishing and Tackle, one of the earliest USA fishing tackle companies founded in the end of the 19th century. (Pflueger Enterprise Mfg. Co. in Akron, Ohio made fishing reels from the 1890s to the 1940s.) The film introduces its audience to the city of Guaymas, a leisurely fishing destination along the Gulf of California, dominated by the Spanish Conquistadors in the 16th century (00:30-00:55). Situated on the Gulf of California, the Guaymas harbor on the Sea of Cortez was home to an abundance of fish and became a popular fishing destination for Americans, becoming known as a paradise for fishermen. Apart from human sport fishers, other notable fishermen include seals, sea gulls, and pelicans (01:00-01:30). A simple black and white map shows the route that many fishermen took to get there starting from Tucson, Arizona at 01:40. Traveling south through the Mexican cities of Nogales and Hermosillos, fishermen would reach Guaymas on the coast (02:03-02:15). The city of Guaymas is shown and described. The history of Guaymas includes significant architecture and culture, but international fishermen would usually travel to Hotel Playa de Cortes, which is a twenty minute ride from San Carlos Nuevo Guaymas town and a dozen miles from the Cañon Nacapule Nature Reserve (02:35-03:45). At 04:00, a typical tackle and hook are assembled. Active footage of fishing at sea from the end of a fishing boat is displayed (04:14-04:50). Beginning at 04:53, the audience is given a glimpse at preparing a fish that has been caught. A close-up of a fishing reel is shown at 05:15, followed by more fishing footage. Typical scenes during an expedition are depicted in the film, including pelicans at 08:20. A technique of baiting using a small tuna is displayed by an expert fisherman, along with tips for reeling in a catch (10:40-11:42). A one-hundred and sixty-five pound prize catch sailfish is finally caught and brought onto the boat using light-tackle at 12:28.

Guaymas is a city in Guaymas Municipality, in the southwest part of the state of Sonora, in northwestern Mexico. The city is 134 km south of the state capital of Hermosillo, and 389 kilometres from the U.S. border.
