The vacant house that charmed Sandy and Frederick Trombley at 2420 Colcord Ave. in Waco was to them a great historical treasure, and also a great big mess. Still, it retained some of the grandeur from when it was built 1911 by Artemas Roberts, the insurance magnate who was then finishing Waco’s first skyscraper, now known as the ALICO building.

This was a fixer-upper that even Joanna and Chip Gaines had rejected. But it had special meaning to the couple. “If it hadn’t been for the Trombleys, anybody else would have torn it down. No one else in Waco would have done this.”
