ポートランドケーブルトラムはかつてメルボルンで電化前に活躍したケーブルトラムの車両（復元車両を含む）に乗車することができます。 ケーブルトラムと名乗っていますが、実際はディーゼルエンジンを動力源としています。ケーブルトラムは電気が一般的でなかった1880年頃に、蒸気の力で地下ケーブルを常に動かし、それをグリップカーが掴んだり離したりすることで動力としていました。

This is a 4K cab view video of the entire section of the Portland Cable Tram in Portland, a city about 360 km west of Melbourne, the capital of Victoria, Australia.
The route length is 3.7 km.
The line structure is always headed by a grip car, with a balloon loop at the Powerhouse Museum station at the start and a chanting triangle end at the end of the line at Tower Lookout station.
The line operates year-round (except Christmas), which is very unusual for an Australian preserved railway.
The Portland Cable Tram offers passengers the opportunity to ride in a fleet of cable trams (including copy-restored vehicles) that were once in service in Melbourne prior to electrification. Although it calls itself a cable tram, it is actually powered by a diesel engine.Cable trams were powered around 1880, when electricity was not common, by steam power that constantly moved underground cables, which were gripped and released by grip cars.
