Bidu: String Music from the Foothills of Mt. Mutis, Timor

Описание к видео Bidu: String Music from the Foothills of Mt. Mutis, Timor

On the island of Timor in Indonesia, string bands play dance music on reimagined guitars (bijo) and fiddle (heo). Together with group vocals featuring rhyming couplets and melodic lines played on a wooden ocarina called feko, the music is unlike anything else in Indonesia - a point of pride for the Dawan men that play it.

This group, Sanggar Tefa Mnasi Naepesu, is the last of its kind in their corner of Timor. Here they play, sing, and dance near their home in the foothills of Mt. Mutis.
