Parthenogenesis

Описание к видео Parthenogenesis

Parthenogenesis is a unique means of reproduction. Unique in that it occurs in a very small sample of the phylogenetic tree. There is an argument for it being the only non-sexual explanation for an immaculate conception. That is exactly what is seen in other species.

Parthenogenesis is distinct from asexual reproduction in microorganisms. This creates a genetically unique offspring in most cases. Microorganisms create genetic copies of the parent cell.

Lizard species entirely female. Bees selectively breeding for either workers, queens or male offspring. Even fish species which can produce progeny with out another of their species available or in proximity. There are even some species with only a single gender.

In the case of isolated specimens this means that a single fish, lizard or others species can produce offspring. These can than sexually reproduce to produce genetically unique offspring. Examples include islands that are flooded regularly. This is especially with the home islands of the Komodo dragons. These populations are drastically reduced and so it is not possible to continue the population with out parthenogenesis.

The four types of parthenogenesis covered in this video are:
Automictic
Apomitic
Facultative
Obligative

Further detail will be given in future videos.
