A1 - Newcastle Western Bypass - J69 to J75 (Tyne Bridge)

Описание к видео A1 - Newcastle Western Bypass - J69 to J75 (Tyne Bridge)

The A1 is the UK's longest road, running from London to Edinburgh, almost 400 miles in length, often known as the Great North Road. Most sections have been converted to motorway or dual carriageway, but there are still some lengths of single-carriageway in Scotland and the far north of England.

In the Newcastle area, the original route of the A1 was right through the city centre, but in the 1970s it was re-routed through the Tyne Tunnel to the east of the city centre - a route that now carries the A19. The Newcastle Western bypass was constructed in the early 1990s. Parts are currently in the process of being widened from 2 to 3 lanes in both directions.

This video shows a northbound journey along the A1 Newcastle Western Bypass - from Junction J69 with the A184 leading to Gateshead and Newcastle City Centre, past the Metrocentre, the UK's 2nd largest shopping centre, and bridging over the River Tyne to Junction 75 with the A69.
