Imagine a speech so powerful, so shocking, that it gave listeners heart attacks or caused others to later commit suicide. Well that apparently was the effect of Nikita Khrushchev’s 1956 speech delivered to a closed session of the Communist Party in the wake of Joseph Stalin’s death. Sometimes referred to as the “Secret Speech”, its official title was “The Personality Cult and its Consequences” and it lifted the veil to expose Stalin as someone who was not only unspeakably cruel, but also a failure as a leader. This is the very rare first printing.
