This final episode of the series is about the transition from the past towards the future of Europe. In the historical town of Passau, Nick learns about a group of students who have sworn to raise awareness about sexism in traditional Bavarian folk music. Nick also visits the ""Holy Halls"" of Audi, one of the oldest car companies in Germany. Upstream to Walhalla, the Hall of Fame of famous Germans, Nick asks what it means to be German today. Finally as Nick approaches the end of his journey upstream, every end has a new beginning as he meets Michael, a man just setting out on his own journey, down the Danube, all the way to the Black Sea.

A river that flows through 10 countries, starting from Germany's Black Forest and ending in the Black Sea, the Danube is the second-longest river in Europe. Containing rich history from World War II and beyond, to offering a variety of wildlife, the Danube is truly an impressive sight. Nick Thorpe takes us on a journey up and down the Danube to explore all the greatness that it holds.
