A good friend runs Operation Vest’s annual Dog Tag Run. This year was on 6/10/2023. I have signed up for every year. This year I did the virtual 2.2 mile Ruck since I am not located in NY. This is for a great cause helping Veterans cope with mental health and suicide awareness. My friend is “that push-up guy” and inspired me to start my 22 a day push-ups. “Pushupgirlnc” After many push-ups he created Operation Vest and later the “Dog Tag Run.” Please check them out on Facebook and Instagram.

Goose Creek park is located in Washington North Carolina. It has several trails, boardwalks, campgrounds, and a great beach area for swimming. This is part of the Pamlico River and after the estuary, so you can enjoy a salty swim without having to drive too far. It’s also a great fishing spot. I walk my dogs here and let them play in the water when not crowded.
The trails and boardwalks are great for beginners, novices and for photographers wanting some wildlife pictures. I often see people running trails too. All basic needs are here to suit most.
I took the Ivy Cut trial which is 1.8 miles. Sandy, roots, gravel, and boardwalks along the way with great views of the water. You will either end at the main road or at one of the campgrounds. Todays walk was warm but breezy, lovely smells of heated wood, pine, and a touch of salt in the air. The birds were very vocal today. Birdwatching is also a plus here, I saw many tiny birds. But reptiles and amphibians are a favorite. I scored and saw a snake crossing the trail. He seemed happy to cross on by with no trouble from me. Either a eastern rat snake or a garter snake, not sure. They are similar.
