BMW B58 Valve Cover Gasket DIY

Описание к видео BMW B58 Valve Cover Gasket DIY

In this video I cover a major change that I feel makes newer generation BMWs more reliable. I change the valve cover gasket on my F36 BMW 440i and show you how well the car has held up with nearly 110K miles.

This DIY would be identical on any gen 1 BMW with the B58 engine such as the F30 340i. This is a full DIY but I also go into some theory as to what changes have been implemented in terms of emissions control to make the car cleaner and subsequently more reliable.

From about 2016 onward in preparation for the G series cars I think a lot of systems were refined and positive changes implemented to make these cars hold up much better.

This video tackles the idea that heat retention helps the materials under the hood last longer.

You can treat this video as a follow up to a video I made earlier in the year discussing this topic. I had a 2020 M340i and noticed it seemed to be holding up really well and I noticed a number of engineering improvements. The car I work on in this video is a 2018 440i xDrive with nearly 110K miles. I specifically sought out a car with higher mileage so I could tackle repairs.

I think this car is a perfect example of how newer BMWs seem to hold up better than they have for the last 20 years or so.

If you want to use this video as a guide to tackle your own valve cover gasket on your B58 powered BMW you can purchase the parts and tools referenced in the video here (affiliate links):
