Amaravati to Become India’s Next Logistics Hub | Kharagpur–Vizag–Amaravati Greenfield Highway

The Andhra Pradesh government has proposed a major North–South road connectivity project to develop Amaravati as a strategic logistics hub.
A 446-kilometer access-controlled Greenfield Highway is being planned to connect Kharagpur – Cuttack – Visakhapatnam – Amaravati, offering faster and more efficient freight and cargo transportation.

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) is currently under preparation by the State Roads & Transport Department and will soon be submitted to the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) for approval and tendering.

Key Highlights:

446 km access-controlled Greenfield highway
Direct connectivity to Amaravati Outer Ring Road
Alternative route to heavily congested NH-16 (Kolkata–Chennai corridor)
Improved port, industrial & logistics connectivity
Alignment via Nuzvid, Eluru, Polavaram, Paderu, Parvathipuram Manyam

Additionally, the state has proposed four-laning of the Ongole–Kakinada (via Chirala) National Highway as an alternative to NH-16, further strengthening logistics movement.

This mega infrastructure initiative is expected to reduce logistics costs, decongest national highways, and boost economic growth across eastern India.
