This Civic Type R EP3 gets a much needed exterior decontamination wash with multiple stages from Rinse, pre wash, snow foam, iron fallout remover and contact wash before moving onto a full clay bar and machine polish. The final stage is a wax sealant from Soft 99 to really bring out the gloss and give the paint hydrophobic properties.

Olly takes his Honda Civic Type R EP3 over to his good friend Tom who has the craziest at home detailing set up in his garage. Considering he does this as a hobby, Tom has absolutely everything you could want to transform your car from a dirty mess to a gleaming specimen of automotive art. This full exterior deep clean shows just how filthy this EP3 Type R really is. The process starts with a rinse down with water to remove any large, loose contamination off the surface, this is then followed by a citrus prewash which helps lift away more grime that is holding onto the paintwork. The next step is snow foam and this is to further soften and pull away anything gripping onto the clear coat. This gets rinsed off before another layer is added to the car to scrub in the hard to reach areas with a detailing brush. This gets rinsed off again to apply the iron fallout spray that attacks the metallic material that is embedded in the clear coat that is usually caused by brake dust. The chemical reaction that happens in this step, turns all the contaminates purple as it gets pulled away from the paintwork.

Once this is rinsed off, it is now time for the contact wash with the car shampoo. Using the two bucket method to reduce the chances of reintroducing unwanted debris onto the car, the Civic gets covered, working from the roof downwards. Once the car is dried off, water spot remover is sprayed on the glass to remove the minerals from the hard water. As an extra step, the wheels were removed and the front and rear wheel arches were also washed to remove all the road grime that occurred over the winter. Some back to black trim restorer gets applied to the front wheel arch liners before the wheels go back on and the car gets hit with the full clay bar session to remove absolutely loads of contamination that is still in the paint. This step absolutely transforms the way the paint feels. Changing from sandpaper to glossy and smooth. The clay bar is essential before the machine polish as the paint needs to be as contaminate free as possible to remove the risk of ruining the paint.

The final cleaning step is the Dual Action or DA polisher that, combined with a cutting compound, removes light surface scratches and brings back the top coat to look like it was freshly painted. Now, the final part is the protection. First and most importantly is the Wax sealant that gets massaged into to every painted area on the car. This gives the car a deeper gloss effect but also provides a hydrophobic layer on top of the paint to protect it for around 12 months. The final steps are to coat the rest of the plastics in the back to black restorer, wipe the windows down with some hydrophobic spray and polish the exhaust tip. The car is now finished and it looks absolutely amazing.
