On Memorial Day 2015, the Blanco River crested its banks causing historic flooding and significant loss of life, property and resources. As many as 13,800 trees were damaged or destroyed in between Blanco and San Marcos. Texas A&M Forest Service worked with agencies and community members to replant approximately 7,000 trees and restore the riparian forest.

Riverside trees clean the water, slow down flooding, provide wildlife habitat, improve air quality and add aesthetic beauty.

Out of the spirit of restoring our treasured, forested landscapes, the Blanco River Reforestation program was born. The initiative is led by the environmental nonprofit organization TreeFolks with the goal of planting 300,000 seedlings on private properties along the river over the next three to four years.
