Paramedic students participate in trauma simulations

Описание к видео Paramedic students participate in trauma simulations

Watch paramedic students respond to simulations of real-life emergencies, including a hockey player in cardiac arrest and a farmer experiencing pulmonary edema.

Medical programs at NAIT are incorporating many simulation exercises into curriculum. A simulation takes a real-world situation and plays it out in a safe, controlled environment that allows students to learn what it is like to be in the real situation.

The Emergency Medical Technology - Paramedic program runs simulations several times a year, with a weeklong simulation where students get a last chance to hone their skills before leaving NAIT to go on their advanced ambulance practicum.

This approach benefits both students and industry, giving students a chance to train in the most challenging situations a paramedic sees over their career before they have set foot in an ambulance.

The School of Health Sciences is incorporating an increasing amount of simulation training into their programs using standardized patients (actors playing the role of patients), as well as interprofessional simulations with students from other post-secondary institutes.
