Employees at a motel in Mexico started getting complaints about a smell coming from the area. Once the police was notified and the stench was found out to be coming from the motel’s water supply, on the 21st of April 2022, a body was removed from the water, but the victim was unrecognizable. She was wearing the same clothing and a cross on her neck as the 18-year-old Debanhi Escobar wore the night she went missing.

With the stats making her the 20th woman to be reported missing in the previous 4 weeks, and the police claiming she fell into the tank and accidentally drowned at first, the case will take over Mexico highlighting the deep rooted cause that country has with femicide.
