Every year I make a point to head down south to the Cherry Blossom Festival in our Nation's Capitol, Washington DC in late March. The Cherry Blossom Festival runs for three weeks and includes hundreds of performances, fireworks, a kite flying contest, a parade, and a pink tie dinner. We always take the Metro in from New Carrolton station and then get off at the Smithsonian stop on the orange line. From there, we walk toward the Washington Monument and World War II Memorial before crossing over to the Tidal Basin. Here, we usually walk all the way around the basin, passing the Jefferson Memorial, FDR Memorial, and Martin Luther King Jr Memorial before crossing back over to the World War I Memorial, Lincoln Monument, Vietnam War Memorial. Korean War Memorial, and then along the Reflection Pool to the Washington Monument. Sometimes we will also visit one of the many free museums in the city, especially the National Gallery of Art or the Smithsonian Museum.
