Tata Curvv SUV: A Comprehensive Review of the Petrol and Diesel Models

Описание к видео Tata Curvv SUV: A Comprehensive Review of the Petrol and Diesel Models

Tata Motors has taken a significant leap with the Curvv SUV, introducing an all-new platform, powertrains, and body style. In this review, we dive deep into both the petrol and diesel versions of the Curvv to explore its design, performance, and what makes it stand out in the competitive compact SUV market.

Eye-Catching Design with Familiar Elements
The Curvv’s striking design has drawn attention from car enthusiasts. While it shares some design cues with its EV counterpart, the ICE versions boast subtle differences, particularly in the front bumper and grille design. If you want an in-depth breakdown of the design, check out the links in the description for detailed design reviews.

Powertrains: The New Hyperion and Kryojet Engines
Tata Motors introduces two fresh powertrains: the Hyperion petrol engine and the Kryojet diesel engine. But do they live up to their names?

Petrol Performance (Hyperion): The petrol engine is tuned for fuel efficiency in city and Eco modes, but it really shines in Sport mode. With 123 bhp and 225 Nm of torque (available from as low as 1,750 rpm), the Hyperion offers strong mid-range performance. The engine is responsive, providing ample power even at lower revs, making for a smoother driving experience. The only downside? This engine comes at a price, available only from the Creative S variant onwards, starting at Rs. 14 lakhs.
Diesel Performance (Kryojet): The 1.5-litre Kryojet diesel engine delivers 116 bhp and a robust 250 Nm of torque (available from 1,500 to 3,000 rpm), making it a solid performer in the compact SUV segment. However, the initial acceleration lag below 1,500 rpm is noticeable. Tata Motors has worked on reducing NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) levels in the diesel model, and while the noise has been reduced compared to previous models, there's still some engine sound that creeps into the cabin.

Ride Quality and Handling: Comfort Meets Control
One of the standout features of the Curvv is its ride comfort. Whether it is small bumps or uneven road surfaces, the suspension absorbs them with ease, maintaining a smooth ride for both front and rear passengers. The 18-inch wheels add to the car's grip and confidence on the road, but the downside is the noticeable tyre noise in the cabin.

The steering precision is impressive, especially during cornering, where the car holds its line effortlessly. The 6-speed manual gearbox has slightly longer throws but provides smooth operation, though there is a minor issue with slotting into gear cleanly.

Features and Tech: A Familiar Setup
On the interior front, not much has changed compared to the EV version. You still get the same touchscreen system and ADAS features on the top variants. The burgundy interior adds a luxurious touch to the cabin, making it feel more premium. With eight available variants, customers have plenty of options to choose from.

Price and Variants
The Curvv petrol variant starts at Rs. 10 lakhs, while the diesel begins at Rs. 11.5 lakh, with the top variants priced up to Rs. 19 lakhs. Tata has managed to undercut much of the competition, offering a well-rounded compact SUV at a competitive price point.

Conclusion: The Diesel is a Winner, but What's Next?
The Tata Curvv makes a strong impression, especially with its diesel variant, which delivers an excellent balance of power and efficiency. However, the petrol version could use a bit more refinement to make it a well-rounded offering. With BS6 Phase 2 norms approaching, it will be interesting to see if the Kryojet diesel engine continues in future models.
Overall, Tata has thrown a curveball with Curvv, challenging the status quo in the Indian automotive industry.
