It has been a while since I have done my last video. I have been very busy with my day time job. Finally back to my YouTube work. So in this video, I have tested the brand new Sony 40mm f/2.5 G compact lens. The whole set would be the 24mm f/2.8, 40mm f/2.5 and the 50mm f/2.5. And I got the 40mm one for this review.

So first of all, it is a very well built G lens from Sony. Feels really good in hands. Even though 40mm focal length is not my cup of tea. Most of the time I would rather go for the 35mm or the 50mm. (Only my personal opinion). The image quality is really nice. You get the quality of the G series but also maintain the compactness of a pancake dish lens. This lens is great for travel.

During the lens, I did some gimbal stuff. And that focal length is doable. But one thing I found during the test. The video focus is really slow, it hunts a lot during my shoots. I think Sony did not use the best focusing motor inside the lens. And I think its kind of make sense if they need to keep the lens small and compact. But in the photo side, there is no problem at all. Just when you wanna rely on the video AF. I would say you should tap and lock the focus.

So over all, Its a fun little G lens. The image quality is superb. Its the most affordable G series lens you could get on the market.
