The subscapularis is the anterior rotator cuff muscle and the tendon attachment. Isolated tears are typically seen when falling onto the arm, forcing the humerus posteriorly. Degenerative tears can be seen along with massive tears which may also involve the supraspinatus and infraspinatus tendons.
