"I am quite proud, I would say, to fly again this beautiful aircraft which is the symbol of technology in France and in England and for which a lot of people -thousands, millions of people - are dreaming to be on board. I will be very happy."

"All of the tests which were done to establish the confidence, that with all these modifications embodied, there is no more risk for any accident of the same nature, and
even more than that because we are covering by modifications, more than only the destruction of the tyre which was taking place on the 25 of July, 2000."

"I have worked indeed, almost continuously for a year to try to get the airworthiness certificate and from the moment we got it back on September 5, I was satisfied. It was another challenge that we had overcome, if you will. We had overcome one in 1975 and we have overcome one again by showing that with reasonable modifications, we could return to a great security level, that an accident of the nature of the one on July 25, could never happen again."

STORYLINE:

On the eve of Air France Concorde's return to commercial service, the man piloting Wednesday's flight is already celebrating along with the engineer of the Concorde prototype.

On Tuesday, Commander Edgar Chillaud attended a private party organised by Air France to welcome the supersonic jet back into the sky.

The party was held at Le Bourget Aviation Museum in Paris.

Chillaud said he will be "delighted" when he takes off on Wednesday (November 7).

Also Tuesday, the chief engineer on the Concorde's test flight programme said there should be no more safety concerns regarding the jet.

Henri Perrier said regaining an airworthiness certificate proved the jet's credentials and that Concorde had a very high security level.
