Scattered thunderstorms across the East Coast brings the threat for strong winds through the afternoon. As a strong upper-level trough pushes eastward, it brings the chance for strong winds from North Carolina through the New England region. And the West Coast continues to deal with above average moisture from more Atmospheric Rivers. The flood risk is a 2/4 today centered over Northern California, but the risk continues throughout the weekend.

Along with the threat for strong winds across the East Coast today, the Rockies, from Montana through Wyoming, into Colorado are dealing with high winds. This is also increasing the risk for fires, especially at the foothills of the Rockies in places near Boulder, Colorado. After damage already reported this week from strong winds across the U.S., take caution when driving in these areas and if you are in a red flag warning, DO NOT BURN.

Temperatures continue to favor well above average as we head towards Christmas Day and the New Year! In many locations, especially in the Deep South this could bring record high temperatures for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Chances of a White Christmas this year are looking slim for most.
