Does working from home at the dining room table, couch or not a great set up have your body in knots? How’s your breathing? Has it been shallow or are you taking big old juicy breaths?

In this episode, I interview physical therapist Jena Blackwood, @drjenablackwooddpt, and we talk through all things work, desk set up and what sitting in “computer asana” does to the body all day as well as the impact of shallow breath. To say she’s a kick ass, amazing force and wealth of knowledge is an understatement. She was one of my absolute favorite yoga teachers in New York. I always walked out of class not just having sweated out my bad decisions, but also having learned something as she is able to distill down complicated information so that everyone can understand with a slice of humor.

Jena loves to teach people so they understand their body and can be an integral part in their own mobility journey. Jena walks me through some of her favorite breathing exercises to maintain a sense of calm and balance and some neck and shoulder stretches to ease strain. She shows me how to use a pillow to create a better desk set up so that the shoulders and muscles don’t fall victim to gravity. There is one neck exercise that we do at the end has made its way firmly into the rotation. The relief I feel is incredible.

She also talks a little about sleep and one of her favorite books “Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker.
