Dear lovers of perfume and fragrances, let us take you on a special journey through the by-lanes of the historic city of Kannauj. The ancient perfume capital of the world which has slowly seen decline over many decades due to the loss of interest in traditional perfumery.

In this video we take you to visit S md ayub md yaqub Perfumers who are world famous for producing the best shamama ittar. Ittr Shamama or Attar Shamama is a popular spicy perfume blend of naturally distilled ingredients used in both Indian and French perfumes. The process of making Shamama is quite a tedious affair and it has tp be distilled to perfection over many days.

The fascinating thing about this process is the use of centuries old method of steam distillation using large copper pots and equipment known as the “Deg Bhapka” method.

The video is an amateur documentary - raw and uncut. We arrived at their facility un-announced yet they were kind enough to greet us and show us around. And let us shoot this video for your pleasure.
