This poem was inspired by reflection on this Thanksgiving holiday season.

O Lord, I give my thanks to You alone
I am in awe of the mercy that you've shown
To an undeserving sinner the likes of me
You still offered me salvation and set my soul free
I am in awe of the beauty in the blessings that You bring
I gladly give to You my heart as an offering
I wonder at the tastes and the smells that fill my home
That brings nutrition to my body and warmth to my bones
Thank You, Lord, for the abundance at my table
For the breath in my lungs, and the limbs that make able
Thank You for the precious souls that You have given me to love
I pray you give to me Your Spirit so that I may love them well enough
Thank you for the reason and understanding that we often take for granted
Thank you for the mystery of life and the perfect way You planned it
Thank you for the simple wonder and trust in the eyes of a child
To remind me that the inheritance is for the meek and mild
Thank you for the crisp air of autumn and the evergreen trees
Thank you for the lessons that are hidden in everything I see
I know that so many struggle without even enough to eat
I pray that You help me find them, I will be Your hands and feet
You have poured out Your blessings upon this great nation
I see the lack of gratitude, the greed and deterioration
But still, You extend the time, in Your mercy and Your grace
That those who walk in darkness might turn and seek Your face
Thank you for the warmth of memory when the day is done
Thank You most of all that You sent Your only Son
O Lord, I give my thanks to You alone
It is in the majesty of Your presence that my heart has found its home.
And Lord, when the day comes that the harvest does fail
When there is no food on the table and the hearts of men fail
My joy will not falter and my heart will still sing
Because I am alive in Jesus my Messiah
and hidden beneath the Father's wings.
