Mt Buller marks 100 years of skiing in 2024

It’s incredible to think that a largely dry desert continent such as Australia has magical snow covered places to enjoy skiing; it does, and Mt Buller is one of them. What’s more amazing is to consider that skiing got started on the slopes of Mt Buller a full century ago.

It was in 1924 the first skiers made their mark on the snow-covered slopes of Mt Buller. An intrepid posse of seven pioneers from the newly formed Ski Club of Victoria hiked to Mt Buller’s summit area on the 6 July 1924, strapped on skis and the rest is history!

In 2024 the Mt Buller community and the Ski Club of Victoria honours this historic milestone for skiing and for Mt Buller with a ‘season of celebration’ in 2024.

This mini-documentary shares just some of the mountain of moments that have contributed to this sweep of 100 years of alpine adventures on Mt Buller and the people that have skied here for a century together.

Come on a journey and learn about how the Ski Club of Victoria created a ski culture at Mt Buller that continues today.

Each generation brings fresh ideas and every new visitor to the mountain discovers it anew. New traditions are born as we each weave a part of Mt Buller into our own life stories.

As custodians of this ancient mountain, the community shares a passion for this place and for inspiring future generations to continue this spirit of exploration, adventure and connection that is built on skiing.
