Estonian born New York artist Jaanika Peerna showed her exhibition and performance GLACIER ELEGY in her birth country in June 2018. The exhibition consists of drawn hand cut sheets of plastic paper which get transformed into sculptural wall works, framed works and a large scale performative drawing created in interaction with the audience.
Both the exhibitions and performance will become a whole only after they have taken place in two different locations:first at ArtDepoo gallery in Tallinn and then it moved to Vana-Võromaa Cultural Center in south part of the country. Whereas the elements of the exhibition are the very same one will be surprised how different it will all look and feel in these two locations. The 15 meter long performance drawing started in Tallinn opened up again in Võru for futher action.

The title Glacier Elegy is pointing to the heart of the project: the artist is feeling for the vanishing polar ice formations in ways most characteristics to her work:it seems like the drawings are melting as we look at them and gravity transforms the sculpural forms into various configurations.In her performance she is shaping the sheet of plastic paper and draws onto it using water-soluble pencil only to be erased by blocks of the ice right after.

Version of Glacier elegy project have been presented previously in New York, London and lately at Glynn Vivian Art Gallery is Swansea Wales. The museum purchased Peerna´s performance piece for their collection in March 2018
