The Genesis has a lot of cool action games, and I need to check some of them out!

Blades of Vengeance is a game by the legendary Beam Software, from 1993. Beam was legendary for making cheap trash in the NES era, but then suddenly became extremely powered in the SNES era, making awesome games like this and Shadowrun.

This is a dark fantasy action platformer where you play as one of three characters, but the female barbarian looking character is hard not to pick. All three characters even have two sets of sprites, as they get an equipment upgrade halfway through the game that not only changes their look, but gives them new abilities.

This is your typical exploratory action platformer, where there is a set of stages to go through in order, but each stage has a lot of side paths and secrets which can help quite a lot. You can find one 1ups, but these are not that helpful as if you die you lose one of the precious weapon powerups. It's far better to stay alive by using your item resources like potions and invincibility items, though preferably saving those for bosses that need them. Therefore, exploration is very important in this game, you need to keep your potion stock as high as possible. This makes for a very exciting and satisfying platforming experience.

The game has an awesome presentation with really good looking character sprites, cool looking areas to go through, and really cool atmospheric music. All around a very enjoyable game that is probably among the best Genesis action platformers.
