I'm Dr Girish Nigi eurologist and andrologist from Nigi Urology and multip Speciality Hospital Bangalore I'll be talking on an issue which is not often discussed but which is very important in the context of erectile dysfunction as you know almost always erectile dysfunction is treated by a combination of counseling and tablets however there are situations where this combination doesn't help the patient comes back to me saying I took the tablet that you prescribed I followed counseling everything but still I'm unable to get an erection or even if I get an erection it not good enough in those situations we do some extra tests like hormone level estimation and penile Doppler which is nothing but a scan of the penis to know the blood C apply to the penis and in case nothing works we advise them to undergo a procedure called penile implantation when I talk of penile implantation what I mean is it is an insertion of an implant in the penis so how does it work penile implantation or penile implant surgery which is the correct terminology is a surgery where we insert silicon Rod or silicon rods two in number in the penis so instead of having a natural and a normal erections these semi rigid silicon implants give an erect state to the penis these are implanted under anesthesia in the operation theater and these are left in the penis and they are a permanent remedy for erectile dysfunction there are multiple types of penile implants the semi- rigid ones that I talked about just now are implanted and the penis is always in a state of erection however you need not worry because this erection can be easily hidden under the clothing and it is not seen by others even if a patient who has got penile implants walks on the street or anywhere people will not make out that has undergone this surgery because this can be easily concealed under the cloths the second type of penile implant is called an inflatable penile implant this is an imported implant wherein the patient is taken to the operation theater and the implants are put in the penis and there is a hydraulic mechanism which is implanted under the skin of the scrotum there is a button the patient presses the button and whenever the patient presses the button the liquid fills the implants and gives an erection when he does not want erection he presses the button again and the fluid drains out of the implants and the penis becomes flaccid again so these are the two types of implants that are done all over the world the second type of implant that is inflatable one is an imported one more expensive and the surgery time takes about 2 and half hours however the first one which is a semi- rigid implant in which the erection is always on is made either in India or it is imported from outside but the cost is low and the surgery time is about 1 and a half hours both are done by urologist and anthologists and they are safe surgeries and they're done all over the world for those people with erectile dysfunction who do not respond to tablets so I hope this information about penile implants are useful to you thank you
