We start the video with a discussion of the three main V10 models (Absolute, Animal, Motorhead) and the basic differences between them. Then we walk through exactly what you get when you buy a V10 Motorhead (what’s in the box).

The things we like are broken down into three main categories:

1) Things we like about all Dyson stick vacs
- We like that the vacuums are all lightweight and that they move and maneuver well. The cleaner head turns with a twist of the wrist
- They are convenient “grab and go” machines. No cord to worry about and useful for quick cleanups and doing a set of stairs for example.
- The tools click fit together (no compression fit). This is a secure system.
- They are 2-in-1 machines being both a stick vacuum and a handheld vacuum.

2) Things we like about the V10’s (compared to the V6, V7, V8)
- The V10s have 3 power settings. This provides a little more granularity than the 2 power settings on the older Dyson stick vacuums.
- Suction for the V10 in Max power mode is substantially more powerful than the V6/V7/V8.
- The V10s are not too loud. We used a digital sound level meter and it showed the quietest was the V8 followed by the V10, then the V7, and finally the V6.
- The V10s have a reasonable 3.5 hour recharge time.
- The V10s have 3 charging lights. Helps give you an idea of how much charge is left when you are vacuuming (also helps when you are charging the battery). The V8 has 3 charging lights as well but the V7 and V6 only have 1.
- The V10s all have a HEPA filter and a sealed system. Other Dyson stick vacs such as the V7 Motorhead and the V7 Absolute do not have a HEPA filter.

3) Things we like about the V10 Motorhead (compared to the Absolute and the Animal)
We think the Motorhead does have some advantages over the more expensive Absolute and Animal – despite it being the least expensive model. You should also know that the Motorhead comes with the direct drive cleaner head while the Animal and Absolute come with the torque drive cleaner head (and the Absolute includes the soft roller cleaner head as well).
- A cleaning test on carpet showed the direct drive cleaner head picked up OUR debris on OUR short pile carpet better than the torque drive cleaner head.
- A cleaning test on tile showed the direct drive cleaner head picked up OUR debris on OUR tile better than the torque drive cleaner head.
- However, we ran the Absolute with its soft roller cleaner head on tile and this provided the best pickup of all the cleaner heads.
- The Motorhead only weighs 5.5 lbs which is about the same as the V7 Motorhead. The V8 Absolute, the V10 Absolute and the V10 Animal all weigh more.
- The Motohead has a smaller dust canister than the Absolute and Animal (0.14 gallons vs 0.20 gallons). We like the smaller canister because it is easier to empty and it also results in a more compact handheld unit which is nicer to work with.
- The Motorhead is the least expensive of the V10s.
