I had the idea for a chair-arm mousepad in 2016. I could not find one online that wasn't bulky and/or cheaply made. I made one from a piece of wood and used that for several years. It resolved the problem I had of having to lean forward every time I needed to use the mouse that was on my desk.
I did have some struggles with keeping the mouse on the pad when I got up from my chair. I glued a piece of cloth to the pad which gripped the mouse and prevented it from falling off, but it still happened fairly often. The pad I'm making now (the one in this video) solves that issue by incorporating magnets that hold the mouse to the pad (the batteries in the mouse are attracted to the magnets (this has no effect on the mouse operation).
The pad I'm making in this video is the third iteration of the new design. I made this in March of this year (2022) and have been using it with no problems whatsoever since then. I did get a new chair and had no problems with the new armrest. It will attach to most chair arms.
This solved a problem for me, and I couldn't be happier with the results. I have thought of selling them, but I'm not sure of the demand. Also, they are pretty labor-intensive to make, but I could probably figure out how to streamline the process. I'm hoping this video will give me some insight into what people think.
