Bypass Oil Filter System on a Mercedes OM 603 Diesel Engine (Part 2)

A quick look at the bypass oil filter system installed on a Mercedes OM 603 diesel engine using the swivel adapter sold by Amsoil.

This is a cartridge oil filter that uses a roll of bathroom tissue as a depth filter. The Frantz oil filter kit is very economical to use and TP appears to be quite effective at cleaning the motor oil. Best of all, no expensive spin on filters to buy, just get Scott 1000 toilet paper rolls from the grocery store or order some of the Frantz replacement element rolls.

Bypass oil filters have been used on diesel engines for decades to remove some of the carbon and soot that makes motor oil very black. This micro fine filtration will extend the useful life of any engine by removing the contaminants as an alternative to an oil change.
