Sherlock Holmes Pipe Smoking Scenes

Описание к видео Sherlock Holmes Pipe Smoking Scenes

Sherlock Holmes was very fond of smoking for its alleged mind-refreshing effect. He smoked cigars, cigarettes, and most preferably pipes. In the Sherlock Holmes stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes smoked three different pipes.

He had a blackened clay pipe which was referred to as his 'disreputable clay,' an oily briar pipe and a cherrywood pipe. He smoked each one at different times, depending on his mood. For example, he smoked the clay pipe when he was feeling argumentative.

Interestingly, most images of Sherlock Holmes which show him smoking a pipe picture a gourd Calabash pipe rather than one of the actual pipes mentioned by the author. The tobacco that Holmes smoked in his pipes was called 'common black shag.
