In partnership with Delta Festival Ballet, Opus Opera presents an evening of sublime works that focus on our lovely planet. First, Chants d'Auvergne or Songs from the Auvergne. A collection of folk songs from the Auvergne region of France arranged for soprano voice and orchestra or piano by Joseph Canteloube between 1923 and 1930. The songs are in the local language, Occitan, a true wandering of the lovely countryside of southern France sung by Christina Vial. Second, Bryan Hymel and his lovely wife Irini Kyriakidou team up to sing Mahler’s seldom-heard song cycle Das Lied von der Erde or The Song of the Earth. In the twilight of Mahler’s life, he wrote one of his most profound works, a true dedication to our planet in ‘The Chinese Flute’ an adaptation of Chinese poetry by Hans Bethge. Six powerful songs traversing the feelings we gather in the duration of our lifetime on Earth, alternating between Tenor and Soprano voice. The Delta Festival Ballet will interpret these songs in dance for the first time ever in a unique evening celebrating our lovely blue dot in song. Pianist Dr. Peter Collins
