P.S. I LOVE U is thematically linked to the song キミだけのボクでいるから/Kimi Dake No Boku De Iru Kara (released on GACKT's studio album LAST MOON and later as a single in 2016). The former revolves around the last message of a person on their deathbed towards their loved one, while the latter is from the perspective of the person that is "left behind". Both songs were performed back to back during the 2016 LAST VISUALIVE 最期ノ月 LAST MOON tour.

In fact, it is quite rare for GACKT to talk candidly about the things he tries to convey in his songs but for this one, there is a specific reason. During this event, footage is shown of GACKT visiting the grave and family home of Kami, the drummer of MALICE MIZER whom he was close to, on the anniversary of his death. The circumstances surrounding Kami's passing have left GACKT with many feelings of regret, guilt and frustration that he is still trying to give a place years after the fact: during this interview he sheds light on the thought process behind writing P.S. I LOVE U and how it connects to his own experience.
