I personally say that racist policing persists because white people allow it. The fact is that one of the major functions of police in America have historically been to serve and protect... white people from black people. Tactics within police departments across America have historically to keep black people out of white neighborhoods so that white people would feel safe. The methodology employed has always been expansive and black casualties have considered collateral damage in a "war" to keep white people safe from the "black menace". This police culture it why white supremacists have found police departments across America to be a welcoming refuge. It is time for all of our white brethren to evolve from being mere non racists to anti-racists -- the difference so eloquently stated by Mr. Granderson. This involves a change in the attitudes of white jurists, lawmakers, medical examiners, and judges away from the notion that black people are less than and toward the realization that when black and brown lives matter, truly ALL lives will matter.
