Friends! We’re going to dive into the medieval world in this let’s play of Crusader Kings 2 using its latest expansion, Monks and Mystics. Monks and Mystics added several new gameplay features to Paradox’s dynasty simulator, including secret societies, character inventories, and secret religious cults. The societies add another power structure for your characters to claw their way to the top of, and will be the focus of this campaign!

Specifically, we will be playing as a one county Norse count and participating in the Fellowship of Hel, the Germanic pagan’s dark secret society - most religions have some form of demon worshipping cult, largely with the same effects and abilities. In our case, we’ll be siding with the goddess of the underworld, Hel, and the monstrous ice giants - the Jotun. From a mechanical perspective, at least in the patch this series is launching in, the dark societies are...powerful. Is a good way of putting it. We’ll be abusing (or trying to) a few new mechanics to have a meteoric rise to King of Norway and beyond - but, since we’re playing on Ironman, I can’t really script our path, so who knows where we’ll go!

Crusader Kings 2 is a grand strategy game by Paradox Development Studios where you take control of a single character of your dynasty at a time, and attempt to carve yourself a niche in alternate history.
