How Chicago Became America's Railroad Capital

Описание к видео How Chicago Became America's Railroad Capital

Chicago, Illinois is known as America's railroad capital. Its sizable collection of railroads is just one of many things to revere the Windy City for. 15 Amtrak routes, 11 Metra commuter lines, 8 CTA rapid transit lines, the South Shore Line, six of the seven Class I freight railroads, on top of a handful of smaller freight railroads all serve Chicago. All of this totals up to over 1000 trains a day parading in and out of the area. But the question is, how and why did it get this way? Why isn't New York City, Detroit, or Los Angeles the rail capital. In this video, I'll be explaining the factors that led to Chicago's rapid growth as a city and the railroad hub of the United States.
