Nacra 17 Foiling – Soldier Key CABB Race July 2024

Biscayne Bay. Course was upwind (tight reach - upwind) / downwind / reach, long distance race - about 25NM. We navigated to the wrong downwind mark – this was my mistake the night before setting up the course on the GPS.

00:02:00 start and upwind
we turned a bad start into a good one, and started best on the line. Because it was a tight reach (there's some shallows we have to clear) we sailed low and slingshotted past a boat that was moored next to the line
Sailed tight reach/upwind about par with a well sailed, fast F18 (Akurra, really nice pick of sails), and mostly kept with him except that we tried to foil upwind - we had good wind but not enough to foil upwind. Sail it conventionally, a bit of rake to skim over waves, focus on cunno/sheet/jib, and we pace the F18.

Downwind it as a bit light but foiling downwind paid - unfortunately we sailed to the wrong place! Swell was a bit awkward at times. Wind got gradually lighter

Reaching leg - wind strength on and off (no trap, single, double), getting gradually lighter, not quite enough for foiling on the reach

The camera mount is firm, but the long arm has a wobble. The image stabilization makes it softer but no, the boat is not 'pumping' nor wobbling like that.
