Sean chats about his role at Guide Dogs Tasmania, the importance of the organisation, and how the incredible dogs in our programs change lives.

[AD]: Guide Dogs Instructor, Sean is adjusting the harness on a Guide Dog. He is holding the dog and talking to the dog while rubbing its neck.

[Sean Cromwell]: Independence, if I had to encapsulate it in one word it's, it's independence. So that's one of our biggest mission statements as an organisation is to provide our clients with as much independence as possible. My name's Sean Cromwell and I'm a Guide Dogs Mobility Instructor for Guide Dogs Tasmania. So, in layman's terms that means that I train the guide dogs, and I also train the people to work with the guide dogs. There's also fantastic client outcomes when you're actually helping people, just sometimes do really small things, actually, get out there and you know, get from point a to point b. Maybe they haven't been able to successfully catch a bus and go to work because they haven't been able to do it independently.

[Sean Cromwell]: But, throw in a guide dog as their primary mobility aid and suddenly it opens up doors.
So, that's the fantastic thing in my role is not only can you work with the doggies, [Sean laughs] which is lovely, but you can also see some fantastic outcomes with our clients.
