Lets continue our conversation about community and building community for the next generation.

How do we build community to surround the next generation with love and truth? Two areas to think about:

1- Build a scaffolding of relationships

A. We must be proactive surrounding kids and adolescents with Jesus following adults to love them and care for them on this journey.
B. Proactively looking for others to be alongside your kids during this time.
C. Look for 5 Christ following adults to be present in kids lives. Ask them to love and care for them. Not to keep them in line, but to offer love and grace

2. Remember that healthy brain development is healthy attachment

A. Understand they are beginning to have adult bodies with child minds (from Concrete to Abstract thinking).
B. The type of attachment between a parent and a child has a profound impact on how a child's brain is developed.
C. Parent provides "secure attachment", they have a relationship with their child where the child feels connected, secure, and protected. The child is sure and knows that they can count on their parent consistently meeting their needs. Not all the time, not perfectly, but for the most part, they know that the parent will be there to meet their needs. When the child has this experience over and over, it actually allows the brain to wire the expectation for other relationships.

ACTION STEP: For healthy community to surround the next generation, it means it is a grace-based approach. We need the church, teachers, coaches, administration, businesses, neighbors ----all coming together to help our kids become mature Christ following adults. This is challenging work, but start with finding 5 adults to surround the next generation in your care.
