How Much PURE Gold is ACTUALLY in a Patek Philippe? | Nautilus 5711

This gold Patek Philippe watch has been on fire during the last few years. It's price has skyrocketed, but does this have anything to do with the amount of gold the luxury watch contains?

Welcome to our How Much Gold is a Gold Watch series, where we take different gold watches apart and determine exactly how much pure gold they actually contain. This is actually the fourth video in these series. During the prior three videos (see links below), we looked at a gold Rolex Day-Date 40, as well as a gold Yacht-Master II (a hefty 44-mm piece from the brand), and a vintage gold GMT Master. This is the first time that we do a watch from the Patek Philippe brand.

What makes the Nautilus 5711 special is that Patek Philippe discontinued all 5711 models, with the rose gold version, reference 5711/1R-001, used in this video being discontinued during early 2022.

Throughout its history, the 5711 saw is price go from the low $40,000s in 2016 to more than 7 times that price 6 years later. The rise in price for the 5711 was particular significant from 2020 to 2022, when a record amount of fiat currencies were printed by big Central Banks, leading to meteoric price increases in different asset classes and commodities. Luxury watches were way up on that price appreciation list, as many investors throughout the world turned to these horological masterpieces to counteract the effects of high inflation. The demand was so strong that many now consider watches a worthy alternative asset class to diversify investment portfolios.

Despite how highly coveted these gold watches are, prices have been dropping across the board since the end of February and beginning of March 2022. Nevertheless, the price of our Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711 was still around $300,000 in the market when we recorded this video. That is the price we used for our calculations.
